Parts Catalog - Strix Stratosurfer
Print-n-Fly! |
Introduction
This collection of 3D print parts are specifically designed to fit the StrixRC Stratosurfer, sold by ReadyMadeRC. These have all been printed and most have been flight tested. Please see the Stratosurfer Build Page for more pictures and information.
Many of the parts found here are also on my Thingiverse pages although since all parts are published here first, this is where you will find the most current versions. As on Thingiverse, everything found here is protected by Copyright and licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International" license.

- 3. All weights are as printed and subject to change depending on printer/slicer set-up
- 4. Print orientation is dependent on printer/slicer set-up, please rotate if necessary
Canopy's
The three canopies shown here were a bit of a challenge to get right but I finally succeeded at getting good prints with some possible restrictions. Of these, the shorter versions which fit into the foam front piece print fine in PLA, ABS and PETG. THe longer canopy had issues with cracking in the rear when printing in ABS. This may have more to do with my printer but thought it was worth mentioning here. In PLA and PETG, the long canopy prints very well

Stock Canopy Replacements
If you want to simply replace the foam canopy with something that creates a lot of room for gear and can be "dremmel customized" for any camera opening the plain version of this will do the job. It is designed with a thickness of 1.4mm and has a beveled edge, similar to the foam piece to more closely fit the foam base. It is held down with a simple screw plate that can be attached using wood screws or glue.
In addition to the plain canopy there is a version which has a mount deck. The mount deck is a four bolt platform that suits most of my Pan and Tilt and Roll Gimbal attachments

Low Profile Canopies
If you want to streamline the front of the Stratosurfer you can use the canopies shown below. They both sit lower than the stock set-up by 16mm and have a flatter top. To properly fit these you must do some foam carving & finishing on both the foam base piece and the wing mount. An alternative to carving the foam wing mount is to use the low profile wing mount pieces further down this page. The small canopy is mounted with the same screw mount as the stock replacement (above). The long canopy has a screw on front clip/mount to hold the front end down and a spring latch at the rear.

Full Length Low Profile Canopies
Two piece swoopiness! |
Below are the parts to put together a one-piece full length canopy or a two-piece full length canopy (shown above). There is also a short list of a few Pan & Tilt parts to fit the PnT mount shown. If you elect to go with the full length, one piece canopy, you will need the ability to print quality, large parts on a print bed of 200mm x 200mm minimum. These canopies work with the tall, printed single motor set-up or the twin motor set-up.
All parts shown below have been test printed in PLA at .2mm resolution and weights shown are estimates.

Many folks have asked about the canopy spring latch shown above in several pictures. Here is a page I put together to help with this - Canopy Spring Latch
Simple Table Stand
Looking for a way to simply set your Strat on a bench-top or your kitchen table? This small stand will hold it steady and it won't scratch the table top.
The bottom of the legs are shaped so you can slip a small piece of split plastic or silicone tubing which keeps the table top protected and holds it in one place. On the inside there are depressions for soft rubber pads which help to keep it from rotating.
