Test Results

In this case, test results were not done "On the bench" as my bench test equipment is not capable of handling a motor of this size. Therefore the results shown were measured in flight using the Castle Creations data acquisition function built into the ICE speed control.

These two charts came from two different flight sessions on two different days and two different battery packs so any comparison should consider these variables. The first chart, "Flight_Four.csv" shows ~50 seconds of flight data using an 18 x 10 Turnigy Light Electric Wood propeller. The second chart, "Flight_Five.csv" shows a similar duration using an 18 x 8 Turnigy Light Electric Wood propeller.

The following values assume equal temperature, altitude and a 2.5% increase in motor RPM so they are rough at best.

  • Calculated Static Thrust - 18 x 8 Prop = 370 ounces
  • Calculated Static Thrust - 18 x 10 Prop = 352 ounces
